Sae’s Counselling Privacy Policy
At Sae’s Counselling (the ‘data controller’, referred to below as “me” or “I” as its main counsellor) any personal data provided by you through any means (verbal, written, in electric form or by your use of my website) will be held and processed in accordance with the data protection principles set out in the Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulation 2018. As a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I also follow its Ethical Framework (https://www.bacp.co.uk/media/3103/bacp-ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions-2018.pdf).
Please read the following in order to learn more about my privacy policy and how your data is processed by me. This policy applies only to the actions by Sae’s Counselling and my clients with respect to my websites. It does not extend to any third-party agents and websites which are linked to my website.
How I Collect Your Data
I collect Data in following ways:
a. data is given to me by you; and
b. data is collected automatically.
Limit of Confidentiality
Your Data that is given by you and/or that is collected automatically is confidential except for certain situations as below:
- Legally required matters to report:
Criminal Offence such as money laundering, drug trafficking and terrorism. If any concerns arise in our counselling room, I am by law required to report it even without your knowledge.
Child safeguarding concern. If I hear about current or past child abuse, or if I identify any concern about a child or children may be at risk of significant harm, I will need to discuss this with other professionals such as my supervisor and social services.
- Serious concerns of your safety and of others:
If I acknowledge that there is a danger of serious harm to yourself and to another, I will seek advice from other professionals including my supervisor and your GP.
I will usually seek to discuss such matters with you first, however depending on the timing and seriousness of the danger I might have to discuss this with other professionals without your consent.
How I Process and Keep Your Data
a. Data that is given to me by you
When you first contact me and along with your therapy, below personal data of yourself will be collected and kept with me:
The only people who are permitted to read your records are myself and my supervisor only when necessary. After your counselling has ended, all your data and records are normally destroyed in the seventh year unless agreed otherwise (*).
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (2018), I am obliged to review all the data I manage four times annually (in January, April, July and October). I may ask you then how you would like me to manage your personal information.
b. Data that is collected automatically
To the extent that you access my website, some of your Data is automatically collected, for example:
a. your visit to my Website: This information includes your IP addresses, the date, times and frequency with which you access the Website and the way you use and interact with its content. It helps me to make improvements to my website content and navigation.
b. Cookie: we will collect your data automatically via Cookies, in line with the Cookie settings on your browser.
Your Data that is automatically collected may be used for the following reasons:
a. internal record keeping;
b. for market research, to customise or update my Website
c. to improve your experience of using the Website
in each case, in accordance with this privacy policy.
All Cookies used by my Website are in accordance with current UK and EU Cookie Law. Before the Website places Cookies on your computer, you will be presented with a message bar requesting your consent to set those Cookies. By giving your consent to the placing of Cookies, you are enabling Sae’s Counselling to provide a better experience and service to you.

Transfers outside the European Economic Area (EEA):
The only occasions that the Data which I collect from you may be stored and processed in, and transferred to, countries outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) would be when I am visiting a country outside the EEA or when my client resides outside of the EEA. For example, when I exchange emails with you whilst I am visiting my home country (Japan), or I counsel you online. In such cases, I only transfer to, and process your Data in, the country outside the EEA where your Data is able to be as securely protected as in the UK (Japan is one of them) otherwise I will inform you the Data security situation of the country and will not process your Data without your consent. You have the right to withdraw your consent that I transfer your Data to, and process it in, the country outside the EEA.
Your Data Protection Rights:
You have the following rights in relation to your Data:
- Right to access – you can ask me to provide a copy of the information I hold in my records.
- Right to correct – you may ask me to correct any inaccuracies or changes in your information.
- Right to restrict my use of your Data – you may withdraw your consent for me to hold and process your data at any time (where consent is our legal basis for processing your Data). However, doing so means your termination of our counselling relationship as we will no longer be able to keep in touch with each other.
